DESK-BASED ASSESSMENT

In the heritage sector, desk-based assessments are normally part of the earliest stage in the planning process. They are often required by planning authorities to identify whether a proposed development site contains or has the potential to contain sites of archaeological and heritage significance. These assessments often form the basis for archaeological fieldwork.
